COMMON QUESTIONS

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY PET HAVE A MASSAGE?

Your pet doesn't have to be hurt, sore or old to benefit from massage! The number of massage sessions recommended will vary from pet to pet. To achieve the best results, multiple sessions on a regular basis are ideal for older animals & pets recovering from an injury. Monthly sessions will help maintain wellness in healthy pets. Massage can also be a relaxing gift a pet can be given for any occasion!

WILL MY PET ENJOY THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE?

Most animals enjoy the touch of their owner. Love & trust are exchanged, bonds are built. I apply those beliefs when working with your pet. Every animal is a special individual. I try to understand the different needs & emotions of each one, creating a customized massage especially for them! The reasons for relaxation massage versus recovery massage are different from each other, but your pet will benefit & be thankful either way!

ARE THERE SIDE-EFFECTS TO MASSAGE?

There are no adverse medical side-effects to massage when it is done properly. Some animals yawn, drool or fall asleep during their massage. It is also normal for your pet to experience some flatulence. After the massage, your pet may be thirsty & have to go to the bathroom more frequently for a short period of time, as the body is detoxifying waste & impurities from the body.

CAN MASSAGE THERAPY HELP MY PET?

Animals benefit from massage in the same way that humans do. The difference is that our furry friends are unable to verbally tell us exactly where they hurt or how they are feeling. Massage therapy  cannot be used to diagnose or cure any ailment. However, it has been proven to provide pain relief & comfort to many animals. When used alone or in conjunction with care provided by your veterinarian, massage has been shown to be effective for:
- arthritis
- hip dysplasia
- joint pain
- spondylosis (severe arthritis in the spine)
- neck pain
- muscle strain/stiffness
- osteoarthritis
- nervousness
- separation anxiety/destructive behavior
- aggression/difficulty in handling
- recovery after knee or joint surgery
- rehabilitating muscles
- general comfort/wellness

IS MASSAGE THERAPY RIGHT FOR MY PET?

Therapeutic massage may not be appropriate for all animals. Highly agitated or aggressive animals may not respond well & are usually not recommended for hands on healing methods like massage. It is important not to force a massage on an animal. If you are not sure if massage therapy is appropriate for your pet due to health issues, consult your veterinarian. Massage therapy is not a substitute for veterinary care.

WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is an energy healing method originated in Japan that translates as universal life energy.  Although it has been primarily used for healing people, more recently it has become a widely used compliment to traditional animal care. Because Reiki is healing energy, it will never harm your pet. The techniques are non-invasive & I apply them during your pet's massage. Reiki helps bring comfort to your pet physically, emotionally & mentally. To learn more about Reiki, go to

WHAT IS AROMATHERAPY?
Aromatherapy is a complimentary therapy that dates back to ancient Egypt. Essential oils from flowers, leaves, roots or bark are diluted in a carrier oil & used during massage. When your pet senses the oils, electrical impulses are sent to the brain where memories & emotions are stored. Your pet's body releases chemicals such as seratonin, which has a calming effect, noradrenalin, which rejeuvenates, and endorphins, which help relieve pain. I can customize the use of essential oils/aromatherapy based on your pet's needs.
